Surface Grinder Machines
  
Surface grinders
are used for various grinding processes including truing flat metal stock,
squaring material within tenths, sharpening cutting tools and for sharpening
punch and die sets. A surface grinder normally consists of a magnetic
chuck, which resembles a table, the grinding wheel that is attached to
a rotating spindle, and a few handwheels (if manually operated). The workpiece
is placed on the magnetic chuck and the chuck is then activated either
by a switch or lever. When the chuck is activated the part is then held
firmly to the magnetic chuck. The grinding wheel is then moved down to
the top of the workpiece using a handwheel, until the grinding wheel touches
the part (carefully), then you can begin moving the table side to side
and front to back until the entire surface of the part is ground. If more
of the surface needs to be ground, move the table so the grinding wheel
is off the workpiece and lower the grinding wheel about 0.0002" to 0.0004"
using the tick marks on the handwheel and begin moving the table again,
this process can be repeated until the desired dimension is accomplished.
Our automatic machines move back and forth under hydraulic power via settings
on the control panel. A digital readout is a recommended option for precision
surface grinders. Remember to follow all safety rules for surface grinders
as these machines can be dangerous if used improperly. Eye protection
is a must.

Tilting
wheelhead for easy clearance setting. Wheelhead is designed to tilt
+/- 15 degrees. It can also be swiveled 360 degrees on the horizontal

and provide for a wide angle of grinding. Grinding wheels can be mounted
on both ends.

Table slideways
are Hardened and Precision Ground. Table is mounted on anti-friction
slideway ball bearings, controlled by table cable on take-up reels
for backlash-free operation. Fingertip control of table movement is
by coarse and fine feed table feed knobs on right and left side and
rear.

Universal
Workhead can be swiveled at any angle horizontally and vertically.
Both ends have a taper hole (#50 taper at one end, MT5 or B&S #12
at other end). |

and Y guideways are Vee and flat for maximum evenness and
stability for axes movement as opposed to the standard twin-V
guideway design.
• The Automatic Vertical Feed System with Digital readout
can be set for plunge or surface grinding. The automatic infeed
is infinitely variable. The infeed can be adjusted by a mechanical
handwheel at any time.
The roughing infeed is infinitely variable between 0.002 mm
(.0008") and 0.025 mm (.001"). The finish rate of
infeed is variable to 0.001 mm (.0004") per step. The
number of spark-outs can be selected, and the lift-off travel
is adjustable.
• When grinding in an automatic cycle the position of
the grinding surface is indicated digitally. The amount of
wheel dressing can be compensated or the grinding dimension
can be corrected during the grinding operation by mean of
a push button (+/- 1 micrometer).
• The machine base is well ribbed to provide extreme
rigidity and excellent dampening.
• Entire machine is automatically lubricated by a centralized
system.
• In intermittent transverse feed, length of the infeed
steps can be pre-selected or the infeed rate may be continuous.
• Table longitudinal stroke length is controlled by maintenance-free
non-contact switches.

• The precision grinding spindle uses precision angular
contact ball bearings sealed for life, requiring no maintenance.
This spindle is suitable for the entire range of grinding
wheels from bonded ceramic type to diamond grinding wheels.
• Self-contained low pressure hydraulic drive system.

arm with all control functions and digital readout of vertical
movement.
